Harrow International School Bangkok Varsity Boys vs  Ruamrudee International School
On: Wednesday, 06 Sep 2017
Venue: Away

The Varsity Football team started the season with a trip across the city to Ruamrudee International School. In searing heat on the artificial grass pitch, both teams battled a hard fought game; which was played with an excellent spirit. Both teams started brightly; it was the 12th minute of the game when the first goal was scored, with a well worked attack from the home team to make it 1-0 RIS. Unfortunately, we had little time to prepare for the opening game of the season and RIS took full advantage of our lack of match fitness and caught us on the counter attack to extend their lead, 2-0 RIS. The Lions continued to attack and created numerous chances in front of goal, Arm, Euro and Pan creating some good opportunities for the team. Some good positional play and strong defending from RIS kept the score line at 2-0. Aum and Oh allowed us to build up from the back, creating time and space for Andy and Pan in the midfield. As the Lions pushed forwards in attack, we were again caught on the counter attack by their pace and match fitness; it was two quick goals from RIS, making the score 4-0 to RIS at half time.

The second half started well for the Lions and we were camped out in their half. Some good play from midfielders Yuta and First, creating chances for Dylan in front of goal. RIS continued to counter attack but had to beat Harrow’s Manuel Neuer, Ply, in goal; who made some superb saves throughout the match. RIS managed to score from a corner and in open play to make the score line 6-0. A harsh score line which didn’t reflect the game. However, Varsity Football is about being fit, taking your chances and maintaining shape throughout. It was a tough learning curve for our debutant Varsity players and we certainly have some match practise required. RIS agreed to play a 15 minute friendly and we managed to keep a clean sheet and created some good opportunities; finishing 0-0. This will give us confidence for the future league games and ahead of the SEASAC tournament to Singapore.

We are going to train hard over the coming weeks to get match fit as we prepare for the next league game to TRAILL International School on Wednesday 20th September.

Man of the Match for his hard work, determination and attitude goes to Dylan.
