Varsity Football V ICS (lost 3-0)

This afternoons fixture for the Varsity Football team was against the International Community School (ICS) Bangkok. The plan was simple; take the positives from last week, catch them on the counter attack and take your chances in front of goal! The Lions created the first opportunities of the game after some very tidy passing play. Ply was commanding his defenders in a Peter Schmichael-esque performance from our goal. The lions created, yet again, numerous chances in front of goal; sadly, it was the same story as the previous game: we didn’t convert our chances!

Aum, Yuta and Tanut linked up very well at the back and we were able to build some passages of play from our own half, creating some good space and time for the attacking players. Captain, Yuta, was able to push up into midfield to support and initiate our attack and linked up well with Pan, who had a brilliant first half.

ICS took the lead on the 8th minute after catching us out on the counter attack. HT 1-0 to ICS. It was the Lions who had the most possession and created the most chances. There was a lot of positives at the half time team talk.

We continued to create opportunities for the team through Yuta, who had a great game, but it was the same old story – we couldn’t make the most of our shooting in front of goal. Chances went begging as we didn’t take the most of our overloaded chances. ICS, on the other hand were more clinical in front of goal and scored, again, two quick goals to take the game out of reach. Job made a big impression when he made an appearance with some tough tackling. Full time: 3-0 to ICS.

On the positive, we are playing with more desire, hunger, passion and our communication is better. We are creating chances and maintaining possession well in the game. But our composure in front of goal and our shooting is costing us dearly. Onwards and upwards as we await our first league goal.

Man of the Match: Yuta
